Visit to Tim Rowan to see his wood-firing anagama kiln

During my residency at Byrdcliffe, I visited the studio of Tim Rowan. His anagama kiln is immersed in the woods. We arrived as he was beginning the firing, with the help of Corey Brown. We were
pleased to realise that we both had articles in the same issue of Ceramics: Art & Perception (n. 77).

Like mine, his firing coincided with the arrival of Hurricane Irene, but he was harder hit, with part of the kiln flooding. I was lucky enough to see the completed works during a visit in December during a visit to the Lacoste Gallery in Concord, Mass. I agree with Lucy Lacoste who noted that it was as if the hurricane had rendered the works even more precious.
